Your Mind Will Be Your Greatest Friend

If your mind becomes firm like a rock
And no longer shakes
In a world where everything is shaking,
Your mind will be your greatest friend
And suffering will not come your way.

this is an interesting quote. i wonder how the mind can become firm like a rock. would it be when you finally get to a point where you are able to experience your mind as it truly is, without judging? this has been my central question lately. i'd be interested in reading others' interpretation of this quote.

It might sound as if I am splitting hairs here, but perhaps it is the state of experienceing mind, not your or my mind, but universal mind as it truly is. Undifferentiated mind, the source of prearticulated thought might be thought of as firm like a rock as compared to the dualistic swayings of perception.

I think that you both have hit the nail on the head. The state of experiencing universal mind which is firm as a rock.

I think it means that if your mind is firm like a rock, then you can't easily get caught up in situations and emotions.

'Your mind is like a rock' could mean that your mind is 'really still' and that it can stay like that even during really hard times without any problems, even though everything else is shaking around you.

I think this is super important for anyone who has ever felt shaken, pushed, or brainwashed. We each need to know our own truths about us, even if it is ever changing and growing.

I was rereading your comment and wanted to comment some more about it.

I like how you put it:

"'Your mind is like a rock' could mean that your mind is 'really still' and that it can stay like that even during really hard times without any problems, even though everything else is shaking around you."

I very much agree with this statement. Like an island that remains fairly undistrubed by the changes around it.

Mona:

Yes, we all have to follow our own paths in the end. Even though they might appear to be very similar. Indeed everything is changing as you say.

If we can ride the crest of the wave so to speak we can ride the present moment to a constate state of peace and liberation without succoming to past memories or a future that is not here yet.

If the mind is like a rock, how to get to the Universal Mind and stay. I'm tired of the tricks my mind plays on me. I must find the way to enlightenment. I have to keep reminding myself the mind is not my friend. The Universal Mind, neither likes or dislikes me. He who holds the answer has the key.
