Love yourself and be awake-
Today, tomorrow, always.
First establish yourself in the way,
Then teach others,
And so defeat sorrow.
To straighten the crooked
You must first do a harder thing-
Straighten yourself.
You are your only master.
Who else?
Subdue yourself,
And discover your master.

Look for the Dhammapada (Part 1) and Dhammapada (Part 2) link.

The words of the Lord Buddha. Wonderful.
This quote is so true. I think living in our society working the job I do, I am so focused on fixing others when it is myself that I need to fix. Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks to dharmaweb.org for posting the audio links.
Peace and Joy!

I love this quote from the Dhammapada! Thank you for sharing it!
Dharmaweb.org: Thanks again!
Amadeus: I like to use the analogy of a cup being filled with water.
When we fill our own cup by loving and straightening ourselves out then we will fill our cup to the brim. Once it's full then our cups will begin to over-flow to help others benefit from the refreshing water.
Namaste!
Nerdine: You are quite welcome.
I bow to the Buddha within you.
While I think that it is important to love myself, I do not know why? What is the reasoning behind it? I can see the reason for loving others, on an evolutionary basis they may be able to help me (I am not selfish, I try to help others, but I have been thinking about this matter and would appreciate some guidance).
